Montgomery County
Late-1800s and early-1900s singles, twins and rowhouses in a borough of just 0.59 square miles.
LOCAL DETAIL
What the houses here need.
North Wales covers just 0.59 square miles. The land was part of a 1702 grant settled by Welsh Quakers, who named the area Gwynedd; the North Penn Railroad reached it in 1857, and in 1869 it became the first borough incorporated by the Montgomery County courts. Much of the housing went up in the late 1800s and early 1900s: singles, twins and rowhouses, and large homes that once took in summer guests from Philadelphia. The 1870s brick station was restored in 2010, and since 2000 the North Wales Historic Preservation District, the first historic district in the North Penn boroughs, has protected the borough's architecture. Along South Main Street, many houses look much as they did when they were built.
That makes North Wales a town for careful interior work. Original woodwork, staircases and doors are much of why people buy here, so we work around them rather than through them: new floors are fitted to the existing trim, and any new trim is matched to what is already in the house. Walls are plaster and older floors are rarely level wall to wall, so we check flatness and moisture before choosing between LVP, engineered and tile. Our work is all inside the house, but if yours is in the historic district, check with the borough before changing anything visible from the street. And because most houses here predate 1978, we confirm the year before any painted surface is touched.
