A half-finished basement turned into a full lower level in Ambler

This Ambler basement went from half-finished storage space to a complete, livable lower level. The homeowners wanted the entire footprint put to use, and we delivered a finished space built around how they actually plan to live in it.

One side of the basement was completely unfinished: bare foundation walls, exposed ductwork, and open utilities. We framed out every wall from scratch and carefully framed around the existing ductwork and mechanicals so the finished ceiling and walls sit clean and square without sacrificing access. The utilities were enclosed in a dedicated utility closet, which keeps the furnace, water heater, and panel accessible for service while hiding them from the living area.

To open up the flow between the two halves of the basement, we took an existing single doorway and widened it into a double-door-width walk-through opening. That one change turned two separate rooms into a single connected space with better light and much easier movement.

From there, we handled everything needed to bring the space to a full finish:

  • Framing and drywall throughout the newly finished side, taped, mudded, and sanded smooth

  • A complete half bathroom refresh, giving the lower level a unified function feel

  • Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring across the entire basement, a waterproof, durable choice that holds up to below-grade conditions

  • Quarter round trim along every run for a clean transition between floor and wall

  • Fresh paint on all walls, trim, and ceilings for a bright, unified finish

We also worked through every custom request the homeowners brought to the table, adjusting details along the way so the finished space matched exactly what they had in mind.

The result is a basement that feels like a true extension of the home: open, bright, and fully functional, with the mechanicals out of sight but still easy to reach. What used to be dead space is now ready for family time, guests, or whatever comes next.
